Bael Bael Lake, Kerang
A very shallow 435 ha lake, north-west of Kerang, filled by the
Avoca River. Surrounded by agricultural land, mud bottom. Water
level fluctuates and becomes dry in some years. Part of the RWC
distribution system supplying water to orchards, vineyards and
pastures between Kerang and Swan Hill. Stocked with Murray cod in the late 1970's (a 5 kg cod was found dead in the lake
in late summer 1990-91). Contains mainly redfin to 1, 8 kg, tench,
carp goldfish and occasional catfish. A boat is required for
fishing. The lake is lightly angled and is not a popular water.
