Cardross Lake, Red Cliffs

One of a chain of three shallow weedy lakes in flat sandy country, 360 ha. Filled by excess irrigation water from surrounding fruit-growing blocks. Popular angling water for redfin. Difficult to fish from banks due to spike-rush growth, so a boat is needed to fish successfully. Located due west of Redcliffs, most easily reached via Benetook Road off the Sunraysla Highway (between Redcliffs and Mildura), through Koorlong. Turnoff to lake is at the Mildura Pistol Club sign, Boat ramp, but no other facilities. Contains abundant bony bream to 700g, redfin to 2 kg, abundant carp to 5 kg, goldfish, and a very good population of freshwater catfish to 1 kg. Also stock golden perch and Murray cod as fish become available. Closed to netting.
