Catherine River, Mount Cobbler

A good trout stream, flowing through mountainous forested country, mainly Crown land, deep pools and a gravel bed. Relatively small catchment, water level and flow rates are low in summer. An important trout nursery stream for the Buffalo River. Relatively inaccessible, access being along a walking track from the junction with the Buffalo River. Carries mostly brown trout average 300g, maximum 1.6 kg, some rainbow trout to 350g, and river blackfish to 100g. Last stocked with trout by Department in 1979.

this river was fishing well for trout pre x'mas as of the start of the new year river has been in flood from 100-150mm of rain in two days may take some time to settel down again.
