Corryong Creek, Corryong

Called Nariel Creek upstream from the junction with Simpson Creek. A shallow creek flowing through improved pasture, gravel bed. Erosion of banks in the mid to lower reaches due to removal of riparian vegetation and trampling of banks by stock has resulted in the stream being badly silted in the lower reaches. Excellent trout. water in the upper reaches but deteriorates below Nariel. Contains mostly brown trout to 500g, some rainbow trout to 500g, redfin, river blackfish and occasional Murray cod. Spiny freshwater crayfish also present. Rainbow trout increase in weight each year, from an average of 100g in the spring to 350g in the autumn. Corryong Creek section last stocked with trout by the Department in 1969. Small tributary streams such as Rawes Creek and Star and Jones Creeks contain large numbers of small trout.
