Cullulleraine Lake, Cullulleraine
Surface areas 185 ha
Capacity: 2,400 Ml
A man-made lake maintained by pumping water from Lock 9 on the
Murray River, sand bottom. Surrounded by red sand hills, Supplies
domestic and stock water to the Millewa District west of Mildura.
Primary storage for the Millewa Pipeline Scheme which replaced open
channels in 1974-75. Bank fishing available, but boat fishing
usually gives better results, A popular swimming and boating lake
with a caravan park and kiosks Picnic area, barbeques and camping
facilities. Contains abundant bony bream to 620g, freshwater catfish
to 2 kg, golden perch to 3. 3 kg, abundant carp to 10 kg, redfin to
1 kg with occasional larger fish and tench. Stocked with some Murray
cod in 1990, and golden perch stocking program commenced in 1991.
Best fishing time for redfin is after 5. 00 p. m. on a hot day, for
other species just after pumping operations. Best baits are yabbies,
shrimps, mussels and grubs. Flatfish, Baltic Bobbers, aeroplane
spinners and Flopy's are good if the water is clear. Closed to
netting.
