Delatite River, Merrijig

Rises in mountainous forested country and flows through open grazing land to Lake Eildon. Sand and rock bed with pools and runs. Lower reaches are silted up and there is little riparian vegetation in the area where grazing occurs. Low flow and water level occur in summer. Last stocked with trout by Department in 1982, trout stocking discontinued because of little apparent survival of stocked fish. Contains brown trout to 500g, occasional better fish to 1.4 kg, some rainbow trout to 250g. Also small redfin and abundant roach in the lower reaches with small river blackfish, spiny freshwater crayfish and Murray cod. Currently being stocked with Murray cod produced at Snobs Creek Hatchery.
