Goulburn River Basin
Eildon Pondage
A shallow 150 ha regulating pondage, directly below
Lake Eildon.
Stocked annually with stripped brood fish (3YO), surplus 2YO fish,
and more recently advanced yearling brown trout from Snobs Creek
Hatchery. Usually contains more brown trout than rainbow trout.
Stocked fish range between 100g and 4 kg. Boating is prohibited and
there is a bag limit of 5 trout per person per day on the pondage
and for 100 in downstream in the
Goulburn River. Recent trials of
stocking advanced yearling fish (200-250 mm) in October-December to
cater to holiday fishing pressure appear to have been successful.
Wading is permitted but caution is recommended as the water level
can rise rapidly and the old
Goulburn River course is deep and often
fast flowing when water is being released from the Pondage into the
river.
