  • Surface area: 3,230 ha
  • Capacity: 312,000 MI
  • Catchment area: 2,124 km2

An RWC irrigation storage on the Campaspe River above Axedale, surrounded by forest and open country, mud, sand and rock bottom. Supplies irrigation water for the lower Campaspe River, and domestic water for Bendigo, Heathcote and other towns. A large popular reservoir for water skiing, power boat racing and fishing. Large fluctuations in water level. Good deep:shallow water ratio. Relatively productive with fertilisers being washed in from surrounding farmland. The warm summer water temperatures provide ideal conditions for cyprinid fish (carp, goldfish, tench) and redfin. Last stocked with trout by the Department in 1979. Department commenced golden perch stocking in 1991. Murray cod may be stocked when available in the Campaspe River upstream of Metcalfe Pool. Carries abundant redfin average 300g, maximum 2.2 kg, some brown trout to 3.3 kg, tench to 3 kg, goldfish and occasional rainbow trout, golden perch, carp to 4.5 kg. December to May best period for redfin fishing. Some good trout fishing at the mouth of the Wild Duck Creek April-June if creek is flowing adequately. No longer stocked with trout as major releases over a number of years produced very poor returns. Caravan parks, boat ramps and boat storage facilities, kiosk, picnic facilities.
