Hattah Lakes, Hattah
Surface area: 1,120 ha
A chain of twelve lakes classified as Wildlife Reserves and
located on the Chalka Creek system in the Hattah-Kulkyne National
Park. Surrounded by red and white sand hills. The lakes are weedy
with mud bottoms, some dry up during the summer. Filled by overflow
water from the Murray River via Chalka Creek. Access through the
Hattah Lakes National Park but extreme caution should be exercised
when travelling around the area because of soft sand, Camping
facilities available at Hattah Lake, see Park staff. Fishing is very
spasmodic but some good fish are taken at times, Contain mostly
carp, with a few golden perch, silver perch, catfish, bony bream and
redfin. Best baits are shrimps, yabbies and worms, Boat necessary
for angling. Closed to netting.
