Hepburn Lagoon, Smeaton

Surface area: 113 ha
Capacity: 3000 Ml

Also known as Andersons Lagoon. A shallow RWC domestic water storage, surrounded by private grazing and agricultural land. Boating and wading prohibited. Only access is by walking across private property -one access is via RWC access track off SmeatonBlampied Road, the other via a lane off the DaylesfordNewlyn Road. Continued access and stocking is dependent on angler co-operation. High nutrient levels together with shallow water has led to prolific weed growth which is making this water increasingly difficult to fish. Popular angling water, subject to a fingerling trout stocking trial 1982-84 which did not produce any improvement in the fishery. Stocked annually by the Department with yearling brown trout and rainbow trout. Contains brown trout to 2. 8 kg, average 1.6 kg, rainbow trout to 2.3 kg, average 1. 6 kg, redfin to 860g, average 550g, tench and goldfish. Reputedly fishes best in wet, cold weather.
