An excellent trout stream in places, extensive areas of shallow water and evidence of siltation particularly in the lower reaches. Best fishing below Mount Beauty is at early evening into darkness. Accessible by vehicles at a number of points on both sides of the river. A popular angling water, spinning for brown trout is often very successful.

A very small creek, four wheel drive access by two tracks. Carries large numbers of very small brown trout, rainbow trout, river blackfish and redfin. Not recommended for angling.

West Branch, upstream from Mount Beauty

Fast flowing through mountainous forested country, cascades and rapids over a rock and boulder bed. Much of the stream is within a closed SECV area. Some access to lower section by an unmade road from Mount Beauty Township to near the diversion tunnel portal, with part of the stream walkable upstream from that point. Carries brown trout and rainbow trout 220 to 700g.

Mount Beauty - Gundowring
