Kow Swamp, Gunbower
Also known as Mount Hope Swamp. A large 2,720 ha storage, forming
part of the Torrumbarry irrigation scheme, surrounded by open
country. Extensive areas of shallow water with stumps and trees
below the surface forming a hazard to boating. Open to amateur
netting within the provisions and entitlements of an Amateur Netting
Licence. Contains redfin to 3 kg, tench, carp, goldfish, catfish,
Murray cod, golden perch, silver perch, bony bream and river
blackfish. More frequently netted than angled. Boat necessary for
fishing due to aquatic weed. The upper 3 km of Box Creek which
drains the swamp is a popular angling area.
