Lilydale Lake

Large but relatively shallow flood retarding basin located on Olinda Creek south of Lilydale, access from the Lilydale-Montrose Road. Controlled by the Shire of Lilydale and being developed as a recreational area - toilets, picnic facilities, walking tracks etc. No fishing permitted in the "beach area" of the main recreation grounds, but rest of shoreline is open to fishing. No boating. Contains some redfin, roach and eels. Since 1990 the Department has stocked brown trout and rainbow trout throughout the year. Angler reports to mid-1991 indicate a good if unspectacular return from stocking, with rainbow trout to 625g and brown trout to 450g. Fish have been taken using all methods, although live bait appears to be the most successful. There is a minimum flow requirement in the Olinda Creek below the lake and fishing in this stream section occasionally produces some good results.
