Malmsbury Reservoir, Kyneton

  • Surface area: 301 ha
  • Capacity: 18,000 MI
  • Catchment area: 290 km2

A deep RWC storage surrounded by forest and grazing land. Domestic water supply, only bank fishing allowed. Large fluctuations in water level and eroded margins in places. Probably the most productive of the three Coliban River storages because of its extensive shallow areas and weedy margins (other storages - Upper Coliban Reservoir
and Lauriston Reservoir). Popular angling water for both redfin and trout. Contains brown trout average 1 kg, maximum 2. 8 kg, abundant small redfin average 350g, some to 1.2 kg, tench to 2 kg, and goldfish. A very popular and heavily fished water, producing good fishing. Very good fishing results from all methods when storage is rising over newly-grassed shallow margins. Stocked regularly with brown trout.

Water is low, but have caught 4 decent size redfin just off good old garden worms, and carp are easy to catch off corn, good for the kids to catch. Just a bit of a walk down to the water.
