Murray River Basin
Although the Murray River is a New South Wales water, it is
fished by many Victorians and is included for the sake of
completeness. New South Wales revoked its Inland Angling Licence in
April 1988. Although a licence is now not required to fish New South
Wales waters, other regulations apply. Information on NSW fishing
regulations can be obtained by contacting NSW State Fisheries
Service, P 0 Box 4805, St. Leonards 2065 (Telephone 02 906 3111).
Water flow is controlled by numerous dams and weirs and fishing is
greatly influenced by fluctuations in the level of the river. The
best fishing is nearly always when the level remains steady, after
an increased flow. Most of the river bottom is snaggy and a boat is
necessary for best fishing.
