Pine Lake, Horsham

Surface area: 734 ha
Capacity: 64,000 Ml

Surrounded by grazing land, mud bottom. Forms part of the RWC Wimmera-Mallee water supply system. Access has improved with an all weather boat ramp at Chalky Point (access from the Western Highway). Large fluctuations in water level. Banks are eroded in places and there is little aquatic vegetation. A popular water, fished regularly with considerable success by Horsham anglers. Stocked regularly by Department with brown trout. Contains large numbers of small redfin, with some fish to 1 kg, most fish 400-550g, brown trout to 2 kg, average 770g, tench to 1. 4 kg and goldfish. Best fishing is over the margins when water level is rising, most baits being successful. Lake is open to the use of a six metre bait net by the holder of an Amateur Fishing Licence (or person otherwise exempt).
