Plenty River, Whittlesea

Rises in the Great Dividing Range and flows south through flood plains, a gorge, then suburban Melbourne to the Yarra River. Supplies water to Melbourne Water's Toorourrong and Yan Yean Reservoirs, both of which are closed to fishing. Catchment above Toorourrong Reservoir is also closed. Low summer flow, high water temperature and some pollution result in occasional fish kills in the lower urban reaches. Contains short-finned eels, roach, redfin, goldfish and occasional brown trout. Last stocked with trout by Department in 1969.
