Sugarloaf Reservoir, Christmas Hills

A Melbourne Water storage. Majority of its stored water is pumped from the Yarra River downstream of Yarra Glen. The water is comprehensively treated at the Winneke Treatment Plant before being distributed to Melbourne. Shoreline fishing is permitted in a defined area (Saddle Dam Park) which has recently been extended. Melbourne Water reserves the right to stop fishing if necessary for operational purposes. Artificial lures only; use of berley prohibited; wading and swimming prohibited; no cleaning of fish in the reservoir; all fish offal to be disposed of in the bin provided at the fish cleaning facility. Victorian fishing regulations apply. Stocked regularly with brown trout and rainbow trout by Department. Contains brown trout to 3.7 kg, average 1.4 kg, rainbow trout,carp to 2.25 kg, average 2 kg, redfin to 920g, average 690g. Mercury levels in some redfin are above the statutory limit and they should not be eaten. Times for public use of Sugarloaf Reservoir, including fishing are: During daylight saving: Weekdays, weekends and public holidays 10 am - 8 pm; Outside daylight saving: weekdays 10 am - 4 pm; weekends and public holidays 10 am - 5 pm. The Saddle Dam Park and fishing area is reached by entering the reservoir reserve from the Eltham-Yarra Glen Road and following the main road around the storage, across the main wall and past the treatment plant.
