Upper Coliban Reservoir, Kyneton
- Surface area: 340 ha
- Capacity: 30,000 MI
- Catchment area: 192 km2
A very deep RWC reservoir surrounded by grazing land. Domestic
water supply, no boating or wading, bank fishing only is permitted.
Largely denuded of vegetation around its margins, fluctuates more in
water level than Lauriston or
Malmsbury Reservoirs as it is usually
the first to be drawn down and also to a greater extent. Drained for
major works in 1989, 1990 and 1991. Has relatively few shallow
areas. Some spawning runs of trout occur into the
Coliban River
above the storage. Contains brown trout average 1.2 kg, maximum 3.4
kg, and some redfin to 1.4 kg. Best fishing is when the reservoir is
low. Regularly stocked with brown trout.
