Upstream from Cairn Curran Reservoir

Flows in forested country then through grazing land, rock, boulder and gravel bed. Access good downstream but walking necessary in the headwaters. Low summer flow, water is often very turbid. Limited trout spawning occurs in the river and some of its tributaries e. g. Jim Crow Creek. Abundant brown trout average 400g, maximum 1. 7 kg, with fish to 900g below Glenluce, with small brown trout and rainbow trout upstream. Also carries small tench and goldfish, and redfin to 330g. Larger trout sometimes move into this area from Cairn Curran Reservoir.
