Upstream from Corowa (Basins 1 to 3 Maps)
Brown trout and rainbow trout present above Lake Hume with the
former more abundant. Brown trout and a few rainbow trout present in
the 12 km downstream from the lake. Fishing is particularly good in
the spring, when brown trout to 4 kg can be caught just below the
Lake Hume wall. Murray cod are present in reasonable numbers with
fish to 30 kg being taken below Lake Hume. They extend upstream as
far as Toowong Upper with fish from 2. 5 to 5. 5 kg near Burrowye.
Cod fishing is best in spring and early summer. Redfin to 1. 3 kg
abundant upstream as far as Walwa. Goldfish and tench present in the
quiet backwaters. Spiny freshwater crayfish are reasonably abundant
on the mud bottom. This section of the Murray River is popular with
anglers.
