Wallagaraugh River, Mallacoota
Flows from New South Wales through heavily forested country to
join the Genoa River just above Gipsy Point, sand and mud bottom.
Accessible by road via a turnoff from the Princes Highway near the
NSW border, and by boat from Mallacoota Inlet, although care should
be taken during periods of low flow due to extensive sand and silt
banks which require careful navigation. Carries a good bream
population at the "rocks" which at times of normal flow is the upper
limit for access by boats. Bream fishing is patchy, but usually some
fish to 700g on live baits. Several small "beaches" in the area
provide bank fishing opportunities. Poddy mullet and estuary perch
also occur in the upper river.
