Waranga Reservoir, Rushworth

  • Surface area: 5,850 ha
  • Capacity: 411,000 MI

An RWC storage in flat open country, average depth 7 m. Boat launching ramp, toilet facilities and caravan park. An off-river storage filled by channelled water diverted from the Goulburn River at Goulburn Weir. Contains mostly redfin average 1 kg, maximum 2.2 kg, some brown trout, goldfish, carp, tench, and golden perch. Spiny freshwater crayfish are common, and carp are increasing in number. Bank fishing is usually unproductive except near the inlet channels. Closed to netting. Direct stocking of golden perch by Department commenced in 1990 and will continue when fish are available. Golden perch also enter the reservoir from Goulburn Weir via the connecting channel.
