Wartook Reservoir, Halls Gap

Surface area: 1,030 ha
Capacity: 29,500 Ml
Catchment area: 75 km2

Domestic and irrigation storage in the Grampians, located on Mckenzie River. Surrounded by forest, mud bottom. Carries brown trout average 800g, maximum 2. kg, redfin to 2 kg, river blackfish and some tench to 2. 2 kg. No power boats over 7. 6 kw permitted, and boat operators should use caution as the storage has many submerged tree stumps. Boat launching and toilet facilities. Camping is now permitted a short distance from the lake in a serviced area at the end of Old Mill Road. Bank access is difficult to parts of the reservoir but there is good fishing for brown trout along the wall. A popular water for visitors to the Grampians. Rainbow trout have not been a great success in the storage and stocking of this species has ceased. Brown trout are caught around the shore, but the best general fishing is in the wall area. Stocked regularly with brown trout.
