Wimmera River Basin

Most of the angling waters are in the southern half of the basin. The lakes and rivers in the drier north only receive water in extremely wet years. A number of the storages are associated with the Wimmera-Mallee Domestic and Stock Supply System, which results in fluctuating water levels. The connecting drainage channels (where accessible) provide additional fishing opportunities during water transfer seasons. Storages associated with the irrigation complex are Bellfield, Dock, Fyans, Green, Lonsdale, Pine and Taylor Lakes. Lakes provide most of the fishing with the majority carrying only redfin. The best trout waters are along the southern edge of the basin around the Grampians, Toolondo Reservoir and Natimuk Lake when full. Trout populations are maintained by regular stocking. Carp are present in this system, and a number of waters are being stocked with native fish.
