Yarra River Tributaries

Some of the larger or better fishing tributaries have already been listed. The remaining waters can be divided into three groups.

Above Warburton

Small, with low summer flow, running through forested country, all have gravel bottoms. Most carry a few small brown trout, river blackfish and eels. Some have been altered by diversion schemes and the water flow can be cut off at times.

Warburton to Warrandyte

Run through mostly cleared land. Larger than in the previous area and usually with continual though sometimes low summer flow. Most carry small brown trout, river blackfish and eels.

Below Warrandyte

All the tributaries have been affected by either land use or pollution. Most are discoloured with low summer flow. Some carry carp, goldfish, roach and eels, and with the exception of part of the Plenty River, none can be seriously considered as angling streams.
