Yarrawonga to Yielima (North of Natbalia)

Carp, redfin, spiny freshwater crayfish and tench abundant, with some catfish and a few golden perch and silver perch. Murray cod are numerous, with occasional fish to 50 kg and more commonly taken after October. Best baits are bardi grubs and yabbies later in the season, but a number of lures are proving very successful. Small trout cod to 2 kg are present, and to protect this small population the section of the river from Yarrawonga Weir to the Barooga Road bridge is closed to the taking of both trout cod and Murray cod. Inclusion of Murray cod in the closure is because many anglers cannot distinguish between the two species. This is under review and there may soon be a total ban on fishing in this area for at least part of the year.
